Bill Yost has been drawing since he was old enough to hold a pencil. It wasn't until he graduated from college and moved into his first apartment that he decided to try his hand at painting. According to the artist, "staring at the blank, stark, white walls of the apartment inspired me to begin my painting career."
Bill is a self-taught artist and over the years of endless trial and error has developed his own very unique style. His paintings have evolved from abstract to realism, from oil to egg tempera and ultimately to acrylic.
Bill grew up in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Even though the artist moved to California in 1986, it wasn't until the late 1990's that he made his first trip to Yosemite. After that trip, he was totally captivated with Yosemite and in particular, backpacking in the high-country.
The artist's goal is to create paintings of nature that highlight those few special moments in the early morning or late evening that make a painting come alive. His work has been in various prestigious galleries in Chicago, San Francisco, Carmel and Tahoe. Bill lives in the San Francisco Bay area with his wife Kathy and daughters Anne and Melissa.
